Hoe Cake- Just a few minutes to make!

Well the kids think the name is funny and what can I say? I didn't name it! However it is the most delicious "cake" you have ever had. It is especially yummy with Apple Butter that your friends make!
Here is how to make your own Hoe Cake.

There are 3-5 ingredients. Flour, Crisco, and milk. If you don't have self rising flour you will need to add 1 1/2 tsp baking powder and 1/2 tsp of salt per cup of flour.

First put 2 cups of flour in a bowl. Add your baking powder and salt here if needed.
Then add 1/2 cup of Crisco (or any other shortening.)

Mix together...

Until it is mixed thoroughly.

While your oven is preheating to 425 degrees add oil to your pan to coat and put it in the oven.
If you do not have a cast iron pan you can use a round cake pan.

When your oven is ready and the oil is hot, add 1 cup milk to your mixture and stir.

Add it to the pan of hot oil. It should sizzle as you add the dough.

After 20-25 minutes in the oven it comes out like this.

Turn it over on a plate and you are ready to serve your Hoe Cake.  Enjoy!

Shoot, I went to make this tonight and realized I should have taken my cast iron pan with me to Florida for baking in.
